About Carla Tucker
Creativity, observation & a general awe of all things beautiful have been a part of my life always.
I studied watercolour & drawing throughout school and then graduated from Textile Design at RMIT in 1991. I spent many years working in the Fashion & Textile industry.
Whilst living in Singapore I attended art classes for 2 years where I studied many styles of art & mediums.
Upon returning to Melbourne I began exploring painting further & for the last four years I have focused on tonal realism in still life painting.
Painting still life set ups started as a way to refine my painting skills. Then I was drawn to painting vintage books, vases and figurines often with flowers or food. I love the fact that these pieces have a history and they evoke a kind of “if these books could talk…” kind of feeling.
I use strong dramatic lighting, often with a dark backdrop as thought the pieces are on stage and the protagonist is in the spotlight.
I continue my education at the Victorian Artists Society and with ongoing workshops.
